Weed Control
The Problem
Weeds are the most common nuisance to all gardeners, appearing in many shapes and sizes. The most common types; dandelion, daisy and buttercup, can all cause annoyance and spoil the visual effect of an otherwise perfect lawn. These perennial weeds compete with the grass plant for light, water and nutrients and can therefore deny grass of these essential elements for growth. Weeds also occupy space that opens up when grass is weak.
The Natural Solution
The Great Lawn Company’s normal solution to weed control is to apply products that reduce the competitiveness of weeds by creating a dense cover of turf that out competes weeds for light, water and nutrients. Any persistent weeds are dealt with by removing them manually.*
The Benefits
Our natural solutions remove the necessity of applying chemicals that pose health risks to your children and pets. The added benefit of our weed control is that it also prevents further weeds from occurring by producing a thick, healthy lawn which out-competes weeds and therefore does not allow them to grow.
*The Great Lawn Company has a vision for a chemical-free future for lawn care – that means no weed killer! Unfortunately it is not within our power to prevent the use of weed killers and other harmful chemicals in the UK altogether (though we’re hoping the Government will enforce that soon!) We therefore aim to reduce the use of weed killer on lawns as far as possible and will do everything we can to persuade consumers to refrain from using it.
However, we realise that, despite our good intentions, it is unrealistic to assume that all our customers will jump on board the green wagon. In the few cases where customers absolutely insist on using a weed killer – even after we have warned them of all the associated risks – we feel it is our duty as a lawn care provider to ensure this is done as safely and responsibly as possible. Therefore, in these cases, we will – however reluctantly – apply the weed killer on the customer’s behalf using the least offensive product on the market at a minimum quantity; this will ensure that all appropriate precautions are taken. We will accompany weed killer application with our programme of natural feeds to restore natural balance in the soil and turf.
