Problems with your lawn this Winter?

With a new season comes a whole host of lawn problems. Winter weather can be particularly harsh on turf.

Common Winter Lawn Problems include:

Lack of Mowing

Many people mistakenly assume that grass stops growing in winter; this is most definitely not the case! Despite there being a slowdown in growth due to the cooler temperatures, grass will still need cutting to keep growth in hand over the winter months. Mow during mild weather when the grass is dry at a slightly longer height than summer mowing.

Disease

Periods of extended snow cover can lead to disease such as snow mould or fusarium, which results in yellow and brown patches on the lawn, and under damp conditions can develop into a pink bloom, easily spread through air-borne spores.

Worm activity

Mild and moist soil encourages worms to come to the surface to feed on leaves and other surface debris. Worm casts smother grass, blocking the passage of water and air to the soil, whilst creating a bumpy surface which causes problems when mowing.

Moss

The damp soil conditions of winter can cause moss on lawns, especially if in shaded areas. Moss also smothers grass, and when killed it leaves dead, bare patches on the lawn which require scarification to get rid of.

We have the solution…

The Great Lawn Company’s treatments are designed specifically to combat the lawn problems described above

Different types of mechanical Aeration are carried out by our Specialists to suit your specific lawn needs, including hollow coring and solid spiking. Removing plugs of earth helps to relieve soil compaction and remove thatch, which many lawns are prone to in the winter months, resulting in a build up of moss. Aeration is accompanied with application of our natural products as required, to restore your lawn’s natural beauty.

The Great Lawn Company’s lawn feeds protect against winter pests and diseases, warding off all natural predators and healing soil previously damaged by chemical applications.

Applying our Ferrocarb+ and Booster+ products can give soil the boost it needs to maintain its health over winter whilst controlling moss, ensuring a vigorous grass plant and restoring the natural balance between the plant and the soil, producing strong, healthy grass.

Our combination of mechanical and nutritional treatments, tailored to suit specific lawn problems, have been proven to protect the lawn from harsh winter weather, maintaining healthy grass.
