Moss
The Problem
Moss is a tiny, leafy-stemmed flowerless plant which reproduces by spores and also asexually. The main catalyst for moss growth is water which comes into contact with these spores, so unfortunately moss can literally grow anywhere water is present.
Depending on the type of moss, it can thrive in damp soils, dry soils or shaded areas, and some lawns suffer more than others. All lawns which are affected by moss are suffering from a lack of nutrition. Typically, areas likely to be most affected are those with heavy surface thatch, clay soils or those which have been mowed incorrectly.
The Solution
Raking with one of our recommended rakes will effectively remove dead moss from your lawn surface. Unfortunately this does not have any effect on the cause of moss.
The Great Lawn Company can prevent the formation of moss by using our natural Ferrocarb solution to cultivate a healthy active soil which doesn’t allow moss to form.
If moss does occur, scarification is required to completely remove surface thatch, which is one of the main causes of moss on British lawns. We then treat your lawn with our 100% natural solutions to improve healthy grass growth, which deters moss from forming in the future.
