Greener Travel
Transport has a major impact on climate change due to the high volume of emissions it gives off.
Obviously, the best thing to do to cut carbon emissions is to simply travel less; but if that is not a possibility then follow these recommendations for greener travel options:
- Leave the car at home. Use public transport or try cycling or walking to be both greener and healthier.
- Buy an energy-efficient car.
- Arrange to car share.
- Reduce your fuel consumption whilst driving by driving smoothly, staying below the speed limit and stopping and starting less.
- Try to travel by air less.
- Where possible travel by rail or sea rather than by air.
- If you are travelling by air, take public transport to the airport.
- Choose ‘green’ hotels. Ensure that the places you stay have a sound Environmental Policy. If you are holidaying in Britain look out for Hotels that have been accredited by the Green Tourism Business Scheme; this scheme assesses hotels on a regular basis to ensure they meet minimum standards to be considered ‘green’, and awards them accordingly with either bronze, silver or gold.
